Parent perspectives
These anonymized parent perspectives are intended to help families prepare questions for a tour or admissions conversation.
We were new to Sanur, and ACS Bali felt welcoming from the first week. Our 7-year-old settled in quickly and started looking forward to mornings.
We liked inquiry-based learning (IB) because it felt structured without being rigid. Our 12-year-old stayed engaged, and teacher feedback was clear and practical.
Being based in Sanur made the routine manageable, and the school’s communication was straightforward. The day-to-day felt well organised.
Quick notes
- Cambridge Primary and Cambridge IGCSE (Grades 1–10).
- IB Diploma Programme planned for Grades 11–12.

In-depth profile
When a school is brand new, it has a different kind of energy.
Older schools feel like a busy market: everyone has their place, every system has a history, and the rhythm is already set. A newer school is more like the first day a café opens on a quiet street. The chairs are arranged with intention. The staff notice every small thing. And families who join early are not just “customers” — they are part of the story.
That’s the feel many parents describe when they first look at ACS Bali.
It’s an international school in the Sanur area, built around a clear academic pathway: Cambridge from Grades 1–10 (including IGCSE), followed by IB Diploma in the senior years (as the upper grades open). In practical terms, that means the school is aiming for a structured “global” curriculum that is recognised beyond Bali — useful if you see your family moving again in a few years, or if you want your child’s learning to transfer smoothly to other international systems.
But the interesting part is not the labels. The interesting part is the timing.
A school you can grow with
Because ACS Bali is opening grades progressively, it’s worth asking one simple question early in your tour:
“Which grades are open this year, and what is the expansion plan?”
That single question tells you whether ACS Bali is the right fit right now, not just in theory. Some families love joining a school while it’s growing — the community can feel close, communication is often direct, and feedback loops can be fast. Other families prefer a school where every year level is already running at full speed. Neither preference is “right.” It’s about what kind of experience you want for your child.
Location matters more than people admit
ACS Bali’s campus is in the Kura Kura Bali area (near Serangan). On a map, it can look “close enough” from lots of places — Sanur, Kuta, even parts of Seminyak and Nusa Dua.
In real life, Bali traffic is a curriculum of its own.
If you’re considering ACS, do this: run the drive at the actual school run time, not at 2:00pm when roads are calm. A commute that looks like 18 minutes on Google Maps can become 40 on a wet Tuesday. That matters, especially for younger children. A great school with a hard commute can turn mornings into a daily negotiation.
What the Cambridge path tends to feel like
Cambridge schools often appeal to families who want:
- Clear subject structure
- Strong English-language academics
- Measurable progress over time
- A pathway that is widely recognised internationally
That doesn’t mean “pressure cooker” by default. It means the school usually has a clearer academic spine than a purely play-based setting. If your child thrives with clarity and routine — “this is what we’re learning, this is how we know we learned it” — Cambridge can be a good match.
If your child is sensitive to comparison, or needs more time to settle into formal learning, your job as a parent is to ask the right questions:
- How do teachers support students who are new to English?
- How do they handle different levels in the same class?
- What does support look like if a child is bright but anxious?
- Do they have learning support or counselling access (and how is it staffed)?
A school can have a rigorous curriculum and a kind culture — but you can’t assume it. You have to ask.
The IB Diploma plan
ACS Bali’s plan to offer the IB Diploma in the senior years is a signal. The IB Diploma is not a “brand badge.” It’s a very specific style of learning: a lot of writing, a lot of synthesis, and a lot of self-management.
If your child is the kind of learner who likes big ideas (“How does economics connect to the environment?”) and can manage long projects, IB can be wonderful. If your child needs more direct structure, IB can still work — but they may need a stronger scaffolding system around them.
If your child is still in primary years, you don’t need to decide this today. But it’s helpful to understand what the school is building toward.
Fees and what to ask about
ACS Bali’s current fee range on our site is Rp 230,000,000–Rp 280,000,000 /year (annual). The number itself is only half the story. The real question is:
What does that fee include?
Ask about:
- Application fees and capital levies
- Materials, uniforms, and devices
- Lunch options
- After-school activities
- Any one-time “entry” costs for new families
A transparent school will answer these quickly. If you hear a lot of “we’ll let you know later,” that’s a useful signal too.
Who tends to like ACS Bali
ACS Bali can be a strong match for families who:
- Want a structured academic pathway (Cambridge → IGCSE → IB Diploma)
- Prefer a newer, growing community
- Value English-language instruction and internationally portable credentials
- Live within a realistic commute radius of the campus
It may be less ideal if:
- You need a full preschool / early years pathway under one roof right away (depending on the year’s grade openings)
- Your child needs a highly alternative, unstructured learning environment
- Your daily commute would be a grind
A simple way to evaluate the “feel”
Here’s a small trick I use when touring any school, especially one that is growing:
Stand in the hallway between classes and listen.
Not to the marketing speech. Not to the welcome tour. Listen to the actual sound of the place. Is it tense? Is it calm? Do teachers sound rushed, or present? Do students look like they are performing for visitors, or simply living their day?
Curriculum matters. But culture is what your child will experience, every single morning.
If ACS Bali feels like a place where your child would be known — not just taught — it’s worth a serious look.
